Why is my Oklahoma homeowners premium so high?
Oklahoma is one of the most expensive states in the country to insure a home — the average Oklahoma homeowners premium was $2,155 in the most recent NAIC state data, third highest in the nation. The driver is weather: Oklahoma recorded 369 major hail events (1-inch or larger) in 2025, third most of any state, and averages 59.4 tornadoes a year. Carriers price that risk into every policy. What you can control is how your policy is structured — deductibles, roof schedules, and which carrier's appetite actually fits your home. As an independent agency we shop those options across our carrier lineup instead of asking you to take one company's number.
What's a percentage wind/hail deductible and how much would I owe?
Most Oklahoma home policies now carry a separate wind/hail deductible written as a percentage of your dwelling coverage — commonly 1% or 2% — instead of a flat dollar amount. On a home insured for $300,000, a 1% wind/hail deductible means the first $3,000 of a hail claim is yours; at 2% it’s $6,000. That’s very different from the $1,000 flat deductible many people remember. Nationally, the average homeowners wind/hail claim runs $13,511, so the coverage above the deductible still matters enormously. We walk through the math with every client so a spring hailstorm never comes with a surprise.
What does Oklahoma require for auto liability?
Oklahoma's minimum auto liability is 25/50/25 — $25,000 of bodily injury protection per person, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 of property damage protection. Those are legal minimums, not recommendations: one totaled SUV can exceed $25,000 of property damage on its own. And with 11.8% of Oklahoma drivers uninsured, uninsured motorist coverage deserves a hard look too. We'll show you what stepping up limits actually costs — it's usually less than people expect.
