Here’s something most homeowners in Oklahoma don’t realize: standard home insurance does not automatically cover everything involving water. One of the biggest blind spots is water backup and underground service line damage — and these claims can easily run into the thousands.
Water backup refers to water that backs up from a drain, sewer, or sump pump and floods into your home. This is different from sudden pipe bursts inside the house. Without a specific water backup endorsement, that ugly mess in your basement or bathroom may not be covered. The add-on is relatively inexpensive and typically offers limits like $5,000, $10,000, or higher depending on the carrier.
Service line coverage is another overlooked protection. The water line from the street to your house? The sewer line running under your yard? If tree roots crush it or it collapses, you’re responsible for repair — including excavation of driveways, sidewalks, or landscaping. That’s not automatically covered under most standard policies. Service line endorsements can cover repair costs plus restoration.
These coverages are inexpensive compared to the cost of digging up your yard or replacing flooring after a backup. The mistake isn’t carrying them. It’s assuming you already do. If you are interested in seeing how little it is to add this, email us at service@okinsurancegroup.com or text us at 405-701-5368, we’ll be glad to show you how inexpensive this coverage is.
It’s far cheaper to add a small annual endorsement than to write a five-figure check because you assumed you were covered.
