The holidays are a popular time for big-ticket gifts—new jewelry, high-end electronics, luxury watches, and other valuables. What many people don’t realize is that a standard home or renters policy has very low limits on these items. That means a stolen ring or damaged laptop could leave you paying most of the loss out of pocket, even though you “have insurance.”
The good news is that you can protect these special items by listing, or “scheduling,” them separately on your policy. It’s inexpensive and gives you full coverage for theft, mysterious disappearance, and accidental damage—things a standard policy won’t fully cover. If you received (or bought) anything valuable this holiday season, snap a picture, keep the receipt, and reach out. It takes just a few minutes to make sure those gifts are truly protected.
