Spring isn’t just for cleaning out garages. It’s a smart time to clean up your insurance policies, especially here in Oklahoma where property values and construction costs continue to shift.
Start with vehicles. Did you buy or sell a car? Add a teenage driver? Change commuting habits? Even mileage changes can affect premiums. Driving less than before? You may qualify for different rating tiers. Driving more for business? That needs to be addressed properly.
Next, evaluate home updates. Remodeling a kitchen, finishing a garage apartment, adding a shop building, installing a new roof, or building a fence all change your risk profile and rebuild cost. If your Coverage A (dwelling) limit hasn’t been reviewed in a few years, there’s a good chance it no longer reflects current construction pricing.
Family changes matter too. Marriage, divorce, adult children moving in or out, or someone starting a home-based business can all impact coverage. Even small side businesses can require endorsements. Failing to disclose changes can create headaches during a claim.
Think of an annual insurance review like a physical check-up. It’s not about buying more coverage automatically. It’s about aligning what you own with what you’re protecting. Take 20 minutes once a year, pull every policy — home, auto, umbrella — and verify names, limits, deductibles, and endorsements.
A little spring cleaning now can prevent big surprises later.
